The Kodaly Method is an approach to music education based on the philosophies of Zoltan Kodaly. Zoltan Kodaly was a Hungarian composer, author, educator, and expert on Hungarian folk songs. Although this method wasn't exactly invented by Kodaly, it was developed by his colleagues and students in the midth century based on his teachings.
In a nutshell he believed that the only way to truly learn and embrace music is through the instrument that nature gives us for free: the voice. While we can read books on music theory and learn to read, write and play music, it is through vocalisation that music is most rapidly internalised, promoting deep understanding of musical concepts.

Zoltán Kodály’s work as a composer, ethnomusicologist, music educator, and music advocate led to the development of a singing-based approach to music instruction in Hungary. This approach, in which singing and the use of folk music serve as vehicles to musical understanding, has been adapted and utilized throughout the world.
In Kodaly’s studies, he found that Magyar music was based on pentatonic and modal scales, was monophonic (meaning only sounding one note at a time), and was rich in 2nds, 4ths, and 7ths.
He also found that folk music was developmentally ideal for teaching children to sing in tune as well as providing a good base for learning other music. Zoltan Kodaly developed a way of educating young children through the singing of the native mother tongue folk songs. Doesn’t sound too different with just that being said, but the differences lie within the internal workings.
